Transforming perceptions of social reality is the act of making people understand that there is a problem with the current status quo and convincing them that something must be done to fix the problem at hand. In order to establish that there is currently a problem, activists must first show people the problems in the past with the said issue. They must also show them what can be done in the current to fix the problem and what will happen in the future if the problem is fixed. To change an audience’s perception, the message delivered might show that before the problem was addressed there were struggles and worse times. Transforming the perception of the present is making the audience aware of the current problem and understand that something must be done about it now.  Transforming the perception of the future takes two approaches. First the message shown to the audience is one of happier times ahead if the problem at hand is solved in the present. The second message shows the audience times of misfortune and misery ahead of the problem isn’t solved in the present day. In order for a movement to become important enough to be seen as a necessary cause, there must be a large backing behind the cause. The article Propaganda and the Politics of Perception describes perception as the following, “Perception management establishes underlying trends and tendencies that drive the public perception of events...” The article shows that in order to change the opinion of society, we must first find ways to make them notice through common trends and tendencies of the masses.
