blog post 5 - informal rough draft of proposal

Although the act of keeping humans as slaves was abolished in 1865 by the 13th Amendment, human trafficking is a form of slavery that is still prevalent in today's society. This type of slavery affects men and women of all ages living all over the world. On average, 15 thousand people are trafficked into the US every year, and this number is substantially worse for many other countries.

Love146 is an American-based company that specifically helps children who have been trafficked by rescuing them, raising awareness, and creating programs to prevent child trafficking by through programs teaching children how to be safe and how to keep those you know safe from ever being trafficked. This non-profit company spreads and achieves its goals through donations and different forms of rhetoric. Love146 strategies uses a wide variety of strategies and tactics including but not limited to what I believe their two main ideas are: story telling and social media.

One example of how Love146 uses rhetoric is through the use of its name. Love146's name actually came from a rescue mission itself. This mission took place in Southeast Asia where a few of the founders who were undercover got the opportunity to go into a child trafficking center. Once inside they discovered countless young girls named only by the numbers they wore on their red dress. One girl caught their eyes among the rest and her number was 146. This use of story telling attracts followers through pathos and their real accounts of what is happening all over the world. It is through this strategy that this company gains followers and support for their campaign to end child trafficking.

Beyond just its namesake, Love146 uses different approaches to gain support, and one of the most prominent ways is through social media. Social media is a free way to advertise and spread information to your followers and their friends through photographs, writing, and videos. Love146 takes advantage of social media by having its own account on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo, and Pinterest. It is through these devices that Love146 not only makes a name for itself, but also maintains its status as a company that deserves attention, and keeps its followers up to date on ways to help.

Keeping this in mind while I write my rhetorical artifact, I will discuss the different ways in which Love146 uses social media and story telling in order to raise awareness about not only what they are doing to help but what we can do to help as well.
