Blog Post #4

When trying to persuade an audience there are two main categories in which the presentation is separated. Language strategies are used to get a specific objective or goal using different types of language towards the audience. What this means, is that whether the audience is for, against, or neutral, the speaker can change so as better capture the attention of the audience in whichever way they may be persuading them. Language tactics work towards the same goal as language strategies, but are more specific.  Language tactics are what take action in the persuasion of an audience. Easier to tell apart, language tactics can be identified within slogans on signs, repetition within songs, etc. They work by being "catchy" and therefore easily remembered amongst the audience they are presented to. The more an audience thinks of it, the more they may think about what is at hand.

The song "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars identifies in the sense that it is reaching out to all the girls in the world that are misled in thinking that beauty is what is seen on magazines or in movies. Through his use of repetition, Bruno Mars reminds girls throughout the world that they do not need to look like anyone else but themselves to be beautiful. He tells them that to be beautiful, one should not change themselves but be themselves. Throughout the world, girls and women alike, try changing themselves or often become depressed because they see the way media explains "beauty" when in reality, that sort of "perfection" is unattainable because not even the women in the photos look that way. The movements that stop suicide, depression, anorexia, etc have many people who are having these issues because of not liking the way they look.
