blog post 10

I chose to do a Billboard for my rhetorical Artifact because this was the main way my social movement spread to word but also because I believe billboards can be extremely effective. Billboards fall under the genre of advertisements; this makes it easier to reach a large amount of people at the same time. Especial if the billboard is put on busy road it could be seen by thousands of people a day. The biggest constriction of using a billboard is the minimal amount of time the viewer has to see it. The message must be short quick and to the point but catch the viewers’ attention at the same time. Some of the ways the billboard grabs the views is attention is by the colors and images used.
My advertisement focuses on the exigency of fighting against anorexia and the false sense of what it means to be beautiful and skinny that go along with it. Many people and teenagers don’t know how dangerous anorexia and bulimia can be. The billboards use images, slogans and identification to catch the reader’s attention and change the perception of reality. The billboards mostly use tones of grays and white due to the seriousness of the issue. They use red accents and big bold font to signify its urgency of the issue. The image used is meant to be shocking and disturbing to make the audience realize what could happen from an eating disorder. The images used are from a famous French model that ended up dying from her disease.
Some girls want to achieve the “ideal beauty” they see in magazines but don’t realize this is impossible. The billboards main focus is to make people how unhealthy it is for anyone to become that skinny. These billboard uses the slogan like “From Toned to Boned” to catch the reader’s attention. The slogan uses rhyme to make the slogan catchy and stick in your head. The image used for the background also sticks in the views head. The girl is so skinny you can see almost every bone in her body. The billboard identifies any girls, women or children as possible victim and call parents to take action and help fight this ongoing social issue.
The billboard also reaches out to parents because it is important if they suspect their child might have an eating disorder to reach out and get their children help and not just ignore the problem. Women in general but young girls in specific tent to have a false since of the perfect body image. Most girls look at magazines and think that is how models and actresses look in real life. This is not the case most pictures in magazines have been retouches and edited.  It is important for parents to be good role models and show their kids how images are edited. It is also always a parent’s job to see the beauty in their children and let them know they are perfect just the way they were board. The billboard show the real danger of eating disorders and call for help from family members and friends to help anyone they feel may possibly have an eating disorder.
