Many Institutions use the strategic art of evasion to resist many social movements. The evasion tactic is when the institution ignores a social movements in hopes that the movement will fizzle out or go away on its own. Throughout most movements, the way that these groups gain followers is through the media, and if a movement doesn't gain media attention then it doesn't gain the followers that it needs to stay alive. Because many institutions nowadays tend to control certain aspects of the media, they can pay to keep certain articles from the paper and to make sure that whatever movement they are trying to stop, doesn't gain the vital attention that it needs. One such social movement where this took place was the Women's Suffrage movement in America. The women would often times be denied publishing certain articles in the newspaper, and at other times they wouldn't even put in the paper or on the radio at all. This was extremely obstructive to the women as they tried to gain the support that they needed to progress their movement.
